December - What's for Dinner?

In December, Brandon and I joined South Bend Foodies for their monthly What's for Dinner? gathering at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend, a restaurant in the former Studebaker mansion. We were treated to a 5-course meal (photos below) and the chance to meet new people who share our love for good food...even in the Midwest.

About the food: I probably wouldn't order most of these dishes again. They were certainly tasty, but I can't honestly say that I was blown away--EXCEPT for the dessert. I'm a chocolate girl through and through, but I LOVED the panna cotta. It was deliciously creamy with a surprising hint of coarse salt.

[Warning: Sometimes I forget to take photos before I've eaten most of the dish.]

(1) Fried risotto with butternut squash puree.

(2) Frisee salad with walnuts, bacon, condit tomatoes, and a brown butter vinaigrette.

(3) Butter-poached shrimp with sweet corn, saffron rice, and pistou.

(4) Prime rib with roasted root vegetables. I'm not really a fan of prime rib.

(5) Espresso mascarpone panna cotta. Yum.
