082. Buy something off an anonymous Amazon wish list for someone.
This goal isn't well defined. It shouldn't read that I'm buying something from an anonymous Amazon wish list, or even that I'm being anonymous, but that I'm buying something desired at random for a person that I don't know.
Last night I started exploring the idea of buying a wish list item on Amazon for someone that I didn't know. I found that I would need to search at least for a first name to pull up wish lists. Unable to settle on a name without feeling as though I were influencing the options, I asked Brandon to give me a consonant and then a vowel. His first two attempts were not letters that could be put together to form the beginning of an obvious first name. The third try--"H" and then "i"--resulted in a search for "Hillary."
I chose a Hillary from Louisiana on the first page of results because her photo made her look ilke an artsy person, and she was holding a fluffy cat. Hillary had lots of items on several wish lists, but I chose 'A Jane Austen Education: How Six Novels Taught Me About Love, Friendship, and the Things That Really Matter' by William Deresiewicz.
I picked this book mostly by its cover, but also because I like Jane Austen…and well, maybe I'd like to learn a little more about love, friendship, and things that really matter.
I had a copy shipped to myself as well to help out with goal 066.
