005. Make (and give) a t-shirt for (to) Michael Franti.
UPDATE: I'm in this video...not making quite as big a fool of myself as I thought I would.
This goal was left completely to chance. It not only depended on my ability make a t-shirt and get to a Michael Franti show, but also on the chance that Michael would accept the shirt. Here's the backstory:
I went to my first Michael Franti and Spearhead show last June. About a week before the show, I listened to MF&S on repeat for days, posted a lyric from a different song each day on FB, and finally spent some time making a t-shirt for myself.
On the shirt, I penned the lyrics from "Nobody Right, Nobody Wrong." I also cut and sewed a gun and a flower to the front. At that show, Michael signed the shirt, drew a heart-man, and interviewed me for FranTV (it didn't make through edits). I went to 5 other shows last year, but I didn't make another shirt.
For the show last weekend, I decided to make a shirt for myself and another for Michael with the words 'you are the guru.' A guru is a teacher, and I've felt pretty strongly as I've worked through my yoga journey that Michael Franti has a lot to offer me as a teacher.
Remember you've got to reach high to be risen. The day you let go is the day you are forgiven.--'Nobody Right, Nobody Wrong'
So make a plan, or simply hold a hand, but don't ever be a passerby.--'Tolerance'
Be who you are--nothing more, nothing less--and let the beauty that you love be the very best. Sing praises to the highest with your feet on the ground, and reach for your brother with the words that you sound. Don't let mistakes be so monumental, and don't let your love be so confidential, and don't let your mind be so darn judgmental, and please let your heart be more influential. Be thankful for all the Spirit provides, and be thankful for all that you see without eyes. Give thanks to the music that keeps us aliveā¦--'Hey Now Now'
Whenever you call me, whenever you need me, wherever you wander until you see me, I'll be waiting. I'll be waiting for you.--'I'll Be Waiting'

I wore my shirt to the show and hung the other shirt over the front rail. The cameraman for the band interviewed me asking my inspiration. I babbled incoherently about learning so much from MF&S lyrics, but I was excited that at least someone associated with the band had noticed the shirt. I was on my way to a completed goal!
My opportunity to give the shirt to Michael came pretty early on. During the second song, he walked along the platform connected to the rail, and as he got near me, I waved the shirt. He looked down, noticed that I was holding it out to him, and used it to spin in the air while he was singing!! Goal completed.
