The Illegitimate Sons

Holy sh*t, I saw good music in South Bend/Mishawaka last night at a house party. I can't help but miss Nashville after a show like that.

The Illegitimate Sons hail from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and three members of the band (Lee on vocals/guitar, Ben on mandolin/guitar and Kyle on slide guitar/guitar) played 2.5ish hour set last night at a friend's house. Frontman Lee reminds me of somebody I can't quite place, maybe a cross between a young, dark-haired-and-solid Johnny Cash and Augustana's channeling-Bob-Dylan Dan Layus?

Watch the Throne // No Church in the Wild

I didn't see as many shows last year as usual, but I spent about as much money because I bought tickets to the Jay-Z/Kanye West collabro-tour. Beyond having the good sense to buy tickets to what was one of the best shows I've ever seen, I had the good fortune to see it in Ye's hometown of Chicago.

The duo released the third music video from their collaborative album Watch the Throne last night. The video is for the song No Church in the Wild, also known as My Favorite Track on Watch the Throne.

A Long Black Coat that Strangely Fits

The idea of covering the classic Bob Dylan always worries me. Taking that signature nasally hum away from lyrics that are quoted on Facebook “about me” pages around the globe seems like a gamble.

At SXSW, Bruce Springsteen On The Meaning Of Music, The Record, NPR

"The purity of human expression and experience is not confined to guitars, to tubes, to turntables, to microchips," said Springsteen. "There is no right way, no pure way, of doing. There is just doing."

Album review: Carolina Chocolate Drops' 'Leaving Eden' - latimes.com

Ooohh..I am so looking forward to picking this one up. I saw the CCDs a couple times last year, and I've been lusting after unreleased tracks like "I Truly Understand That You Love Another Man" and "No Man's Mama" ever since...

Drive (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

I'm not usually a soundtrack sort of girl, but this is one that I'm going to have to pick up. How fantastic will I be driving around Mishawaka this spring to the likes of Driver? Super fantastic.
